How slippery is this guy? Barack, pandering to Latinos, says that Americans who worry about immigrants learning english have it backwards. They should, he said, be teaching their kids to speak Spanish.
“Instead of worrying about whether immigrants can learn English, because they will learn English, you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish,” he said.
Why Spanish and not, say French?
For comic effect, he added, “It’s embarrassing when Europeans come over here, they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German. And then we go over to Europe and all we can say is ‘Merci beaucoup.'”
Oh, how the elitists obsess over our inadequacy compared to Europeans. Has it ever occurred to people like Barack that in Europe, with countries sometimes the size of small states, they need multiple languages to get by? Our need for foreign languages is only driven by the desire of Democrats to keep millions of people entering the country illegally each year.
Hasn’t he noticed that the rest of the world speaks English because it is the international language of business?
Wouldn’t it be better if he focused on getting our schools to require that urban kids learn to speak proper english as well as the children from Europe so they can have a future?

Learn Spanish, and you’re lost in Germany. Learn French and you’re illiterate in Indonesia. What about Esperanto?
Esperanto works for me. I have used this language in speech and writing for over 40 years, and it has certainly enriched my life. I have used it during work-related visits to a dozen countries. Last year, for example, I was given a guided tour of Milan by a local Esperanto speaking lady, a tour of Berlin by a local man, and visited an Esperanto-speaking family near Strasbourg.
Esperanto was never intended to take the place of national languages, but to act as an auxiliary language, a ‘helplingvo’ – a role it fulfils admirably.
