Camelot II

It was just just a few months ago that the media was obsessively discussing the future of the GOP as if it was not likely to have one.

Steven Kornacki of the New York Observer shared a similar view, suggesting Republicans give up on conservative principles and simply follow Democratic Party ideals. “The public is looking for people who want government to take a leading, active, and aggressive role. Republicans aren’t even speaking to that.”

The star of Barack was in ascension, and the media was eating up story lines that mocked Republicans as being led by talk radio.

The Obama White House has begun advancing an aggressive political strategy: persuading the country that real power behind the Republican party is not the GOP leaders in Congress or at the Republican National Committee, but rather the provocative radio talk show king Rush Limbaugh.

Are the wise men in the media really so unwise, or are they just speaking from their hearts, not their heads? Just seven months into Camelot II, the weather has grown stormy.

Only 49 percent of Americans now hold a favorable view of the Democratic Party, down from 62 percent in the same poll shortly after Obama assumed office. Democratic favorable ratings hovered around 60 percent as recently as April, when 59 percent of those polled held a favorable view.

A 13 point drop in the popularity of Democrats in half a year! Wait until the one year mark, with a painful economy belonging completely to Obama, war raging in Afghanistan, and liberals angry at the president for not passing Cap & Trade, ignoring gays in the military and not having withdrawn any troops from Iraq.

The national survey of 2,010 adults conducted Aug. 11-17 also found that 51 percent of Americans approve of Obama’s job performance with 37 percent disapproving. Independents split 45 percent-43 percent in approving of the president’s performance.

Trouble is, Democrats didn’t notice that in Congress and in the White House, they are lead by leftists who are dramatically out of step with the core beliefs of the American people.

The news isn’t just that self-identified conservatives outnumber self-identified liberals nationwide. That’s old hat. The big news from Gallup is that conservatives outnumber liberals in every state in the union, including supposedly uberliberal Vermont and Massachusetts.

Worst thing that could ever happen to liberals is to put them in the spotlight so Americans can see what they’re all about. Worst thing that could ever happen to Democrats is for Americans to realize this isn’t the party of JFK, it’s the party of Teddy K.
