Al Greene

19Jul10

Alvin Greene is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in South Carolina, so a speech is called for!

Democrats have given up hope of replacing Greene on the ballot. Several different investigations have failed to turn up any evidence to suggest that Greene’s primary victory over Vic Rawl — who actually campaigned for the job but lost by more than 30,000 votes — wasn’t legitimate.

In short, if getting Greene on the ballot was a dirty trick, it worked. And so Democrats will be stuck with him right through November — action figures and all.

I think the guy has a chance at taking the November election, given that his circumstances have been termed by WaPo as “weirdly normal” – http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2010/07/alvin_greenes_catechism_of_pol.html .

Mr. Greene certainly provides a new delivery to a tired, old dog – http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2010/07/19/yellin.sc.alvin.greene.speech.cnn .

Were Greene actually elected to the Senate, I would pay earnest money to watch that initial, welcoming ,and warm embarce offered by his fellow caring, compassionate, and colorblind party members. You know, the ones that already have Greene pegged:

“There were some real shenanigans going on in the South Carolina primary, I don’t know if he was a Republican plant; he was someone’s plant,” – Senator James Clyburn (D – SC). We must take this Senator’s claim with a grain of salt given his flights of fancy about the Tea Party and racist faxes.

“Based upon all of the allegations — if the allegations are true, I’d like to see another Democrat replace him unquestionably,” – Senator Robert Menendez (D – NJ). We can’t rely on this bozo because he’s deferring to Senator Clyburn – http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2010/06/menendez-replace-alvin-greene-if-allegations-are-true-but-other-great-races-to-pursue.html .

“I will admit that I discouraged him from filing… not because I thought he had charges against him as we later found out, but because I thought he was so naïve about what it would take to run. But he was insistent, so legally, we accepted him,” – Carol Fowler, SC Democratic Party Chair
