About

This is a blog hosted by radio talk host Todd Feinburg. Learn more about Todd at WRKO, and email him at todd @toddtalk.com. It is the successor blog to http://www.barackswhitelies.blogspot.com.

Todd is a radio talk host from Boston, where he co-hosts the morning show on WRKO, Boston’s Talk Station. For six years he hosted a nationally syndicated weekend talk radio program, which started in March of 2003.

Todd got the radio bug while in college, working as a newscaster, DJ, and eventually the General Manager of WMFO, the 100 watt FM station at Tufts University.

While he preferred radio to academics from his first day behind the mic, the books were left pretty far behind for good when the station was destroyed by fire during his junior year. Todd was too busy getting the station back on the air – within hours, at a new location on campus using equipment donated from a commercial Boston radio station (thanks to radio legend Arnie the Woo Woo Ginsburg) and records donated by listeners – to pay too much attention to text books anymore.

After graduating from Tufts University by the skin of his teeth with a degree in political science, Todd became an international chemical trader with Sobin Chemical in Boston, focusing on trade with China. Two years later, he left the family business to pursue a career in radio.

Todd worked as a disc jockey, news director and beautiful music announcer before spending two years as a helicopter traffic reporter in Boston.

Then came a career change, as Todd entered the restaurant business. It was his wife’s business, Rosalie’s Restaurant in Marblehead, Massachusetts, that distracted Todd from his radio passion. Rosalie’s, already a very popular spot, became insanely busy when it was featured in a TV commercial for credit card giant VISA in 1986 – one of the first in their “they don’t take your American Express Card,” series. Ten years later, they got out of the business, exhausted – and after a year of recovery, Todd returned to radio.

Todd has spent the past twelve years in the talk radio field, working at stations around New England. In 2003 he joined WRKO, which has been Boston’s dominant talk station since the early 1980’s. Todd hosted evenings and late mornings there before the move to mornings in January.

Todd has toured the Middle East several times since September 11, visiting Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman. In 2005, he spent 6 weeks as a long term substitute teacher in an urban middle school so that he could gain some first hand experience with the public schools. Todd has been named three times to Talkers Magazine’s list of the Top 100 Most Important Talk Hosts in America.

Born and raised in Lexington, Todd has always lived in the Greater Boston area, except for a year at the University of Denver. Todd currently lives with his wife, Rosalie, on Boston’s North Shore.

I’m so angry with the current state of things that I’m considering running against Jim “Empty Suit” McGovern or Steve “the Worm” D’Amico!!!!

    • There are people running against Jim McGovern. My favorite is Mike Stopa.

      Mike Stopa VS Obama (funny)

Mike Stopa discusses Jim McGovern and Anti-Americanism

We have campaign events routinely, come meet the candidate.

  5. Todd, I enjoy listening to you and Finneran every morning on my way to the office. I live in NH now but was born and raised in MA. Keep up the good work!

You act like you started Rosalie’s. That place was the best spot in Mhead but when you came around and started the liquor police it started to suck. Mhead is a dinking town with a sailing problem. I do agree with your political banter with the Felon however.

We alll should read Acorn’s platform: Its out there for public consumption for those paying attention:

Acorn: “We are an uncommon people. We are the majority, forged from all minorities. We are the masses of many, not the forces of few. We will continue our fight until the American way is just one way, until we have shared the wealth, until we have won our freedom”. We know where the share the wealth comment came from [or is it a chicken and egg thing].

An Indianapolis doctor’s letter to Sen. Bayh about the Bill (Note: Dr. Stephen E. Frazer, MD practices as an anesthesiologist in Indianapolis, IN)

Here is a letter I sent to Senator Bayh. Feel free to copy it and send it around to all other representatives. — Stephen Fraser

    July 23, 2009

    Senator Bayh,

As a practicing physician I have major concerns with the health care bill before Congress. I actually have read the bill and am shocked by the brazenness of the government’s proposed involvement in the patient-physician relationship. The very idea that the government will dictate and ration patient care is dangerous and certainly not helpful in designing a health care system that works for all. Every physician I work with agrees that we need to fix our health care system, but the proposed bills currently making their way through congress will be a disaster if passed.

I ask you respectfully and as a patriotic American to look at the following troubling lines that I have read in the bill. You cannot possibly believe that these proposals are in the best interests of the country and our fellow citizens.

Page 22 of the HC Bill: Mandates that the Govt will audit books of all employers that self-insure!!

Page 30 Sec 123 of HC bill: THERE WILL BE A GOVT COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benefits you get.

Page 126 Lines 22-25: Employers MUST pay for HC for part-time employees AND their families. (Employees shouldn’t get excited about this as employers will be forced to reduce its work force, benefits, and wages/salaries to cover such a huge expense.)

Page 489 Sec 1308: The Govt will cover marriage and family therapy. (Which means Govt will insert itself into your marriage even.)

Page 494-498: Govt will cover Mental Health Services including defining, creating, and rationing those services.

Senator, I guarantee that I personally will do everything possible to inform patients and my fellow physicians about the dangers of the proposed bills you and your colleagues are debating.

Furthermore, if you vote for a bill that enforces socialized medicine on the country and destroys the doctor-patient relationship, I will do everything in my power to make sure you lose your job in the next election.

    Respectfully,

    Stephen E. Fraser, MD

What do you bet the fine doctor got a call from the IRS shortly after this letter was received? I am guesing Dr Fraser read more of the bill than the Senator did. Ring, Ring. Dr Fraser, this is the IRS. It’s time for your proctology exam, em tax audit sir.

Excellent program on WRKO today. The way you accomplish and over-whelming task is to folow the old addage/riddle: “How do you eat and elephant?” …………….. Ans: “One bite at a time!”
The most immediate action we can take is to send a message to the rest of the country by voting for Scott Brown. I’m glad you at least just mentioned his name.

If the person HOLDING the breathalizer applies hand sanitizer to their hands before you use the breathalizer, the machine SUCKS the ETOH and you get a FALSE+. If you repeat the test later and the person holding the breatalizer uses the sanitizer again, you get the same FALSE +. Maybe someone is in prison who really should not be?

    Todd,
Enjoy listening to you while getting ready for work, and agree with your thinking most of time. However, this am your solutions for health care savings re: post partum depression seemed to be based on a faulty foundation. The real problem with our health care system is the presence of third party payors. I say this as a health care provider myself. The reason there is interference between doctor or therapist and patient is not only because of government, but because of insurance companies trying to save money by squueezing savings from the procedures. There is no MARKET INCENTIVE to save money in the health care system because “someone else” pays for it. I’m sure you’ve heard it before: we don’t have “food insurance”, etc. Naturally, all would need “catastophic” health care insurance, but otherwise there should be a way for people to save and pay for their own health care.

As far as your ideas of having “everyone pay for maternity and delivery” themselves now, this would under the current system have far-reaching and disastrous social consequences. Since Medicaid would continue to pay for all the medical expenses of the poor (and mostly unmarried and) pregnant women, and the struggling middle class would be required to take on the expensive task of not only marrying and raising but now paying for the cost of birthing their children there wold be additional pressure for them not to marry and the birth rate would take another hit and we would become even more like Europe–a result which I certainly–and perhaps you also would not desire.

Thanks, however, as always, for fighting the good fight for freedom.

    Phoebe

    Todd,

Morningstar (mutual funds research) has a fascinating item currently posted:

    http://news.morningstar.com/newsnet/ViewNews.aspx?article=/DJ/201004050814DOWJONESDJONLINE000053_univ.xml

“More Americans Give Up Citizenship as IRS Gets Aggressive”

This is an extraordinary check on the effectiveness of “tax the rich.” How often have you (and I) said, “If we tax the rich, they’ll stop working–OR LEAVE!” Apparently, it is literally true.

Now, nobody is wearing out the carpet at the 1st Class departures gate at JFK International. But the article says there were 500 who gave up their citizenship in 4th quarter 2009, equal to all of 2007. Suppose this is just the beginning of a trend? Although the numbers are small, they (and the article) are poignant.

I’m a cop in Allston-Brighton (D-14). I’ll mention as an aside there seem to be a significant decrease in the number of Brasilians I pull over, or see at the Rite-Aid parking lot (181 Brighton Ave, Allston), which has long served as a Brasilian “labor pool” in the mornings.

I enjoy your show greatly. A heads-up: I’m also a pretty loyal listener to Michael Graham on the FM side, and will be sharing this article with him. But you DO broadcast earlier…..!

    Hi Todd,

Until I read the “about” section I had no idea about your previous life, and definitely not your connection to Rosalie’s!

My mother loved Rosalies, and even wrote about it in one of her poems. She used to be very active with the Marblehead Arts Assocation, and especially Writer’s World.

She died several years ago, but I will always remember that poem about a bridal shower she attended at the restaurant many moons ago.

She also got me hooked to talk radio as early as the 70’s, part of the reason I still love it so much today!

  18. Todd, I just want to say that you are a joy to listen to in the morning. I cant believe how quick your answers are on every subject. Witty! I flip around the dial after your show, listening to Beck, ingraham, Graham a little, Rush, Howie, and Michele Mc Fee and Savage at night. No one is as good as you. You should have your own syndicated show. I agree with just about everything and cant beleive how many times I laugh during the show. Only Howie runs a close second. Love the way you make fun of Tom without him knowing. You really know the issues and actually have answers unlike Hannity. Hope RKO is able to hang on but if not hope you pick up another gig close by. Good luck.

Todd. Love listening to you on WRKO and enjoyed your weekend show too! Do something about one of the pics on the WRKO site. You look like hell! Bags under your eyes. Skin gaunt. Looks like you’re feeling terrible and badly need some sleep!!!!

    • I don’t actually look that bad – they doctored it so Tom wouldn’t be so embarrassed by my youth and vibrancy.

    Todd,
Tried to get on this morning. Do you recall when you wondered what we, the people thought would be the outcome on Beacon Hill this November? Some are convinced things will remain the same, the Dems controlling both the House and Senate. God, I hope not! We have to wake the electorate up. The Independents (UnEnrolled) are the key. They hold 49.5% of total registered, while the Democrats have 38% and the Republicans have 12.5%. So many groups out here are trying to make a difference. Like ours, CleanSweepBeaconHill.org. Started a year and a half ago in Fall River by a local guy. It now has hundreds of members and is about to come out swinging against the incumbents. This group has worked very hard and had all its members fighting for Scott Brown. With hardly any money, they still believe in what they are trying to do and you should listen to what they have to say. We need more in this state like them. We’d be in much better shape.
